On Holiness
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Life gets busy. Things happen. Jens and Lukas were unable to record this week. Luckily they have this little gem that was recorded on Sunday, February 16th. For those following along, we had not even launched this podcast at that point. This episode on holiness was intended to be the first episode in a mini series on sanctification. We do not remember why we shelved the series, but this episode is the only one that we have never released. Consider this "vintage" Doxology Podcast. This is a sneak peak into the early days of our little venture. So kick back, relax, and enjoy as the guys discuss what it means to strive for holiness.

Jan Hus
Friday Aug 28, 2020
Friday Aug 28, 2020
"This goose is cooked!" Where does this phrase come from? It is attributed to the story of Jan Hus (Hus is Czech for goose). Jan Hus was a fascinating figure who was in many ways a forerunner to the Reformers we are familiar with. Living over a century before the Reformation began, Hus worked for reform in the Czech Church to push back against abuses of power and neglect of doctrine. Ultimately, he was martyred and burned at the stake for his witness to the faith of Scripture.

The Fundamentals and Fundamentalism
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
In the early 20th century, a group of pastors, professors, and theologians contributed about 90 essays to a project known as The Fundamentals. These essays were mailed out all over the country in order to combat modernist theology and defend traditional expressions of Christian doctrine. The guys take a look at the context and history of this project, and then discuss modern fundamentalism and the ways it is (and isn’t) connected to The Fundamentals from the early 1900s.

Friday Aug 21, 2020
Friday Aug 21, 2020
Nicholas Ridley was an English bishop, reformer, and martyr who had a passion for renewal in his church. While he served as a bishop in the Church of England he worked closely with the famous Thomas Cranmer, as well as made a reputation for himself as a committed reformer in his own dioceses. Ridley ultimately died a martyr for his commitment to the Reformation, and he has left us a rich narrative of his life and work. Tune in to hear more!

Christian Love
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
The guys both spend a lot of time on social media. Regardless of whether this is a good habit (it's not), it has revealed the sad frequency with which Christians treat each other with hostility and anger instead of the love Jesus calls us to. This episode is a conversation exploring the idea of Christian love and the role it has in our discourse with those we disagree with.

Bartolomé de Las Casas
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Friday Aug 07, 2020
Most people are familiar with the various atrocities committed by early European settlers in the New World against the indigenous peoples living there. Often these sad events were perpetrated by, or at least allowed by, Christians and people representing the church. Bartolomé de Las Casas represents a refreshing departure from this historical trend. De Las Casas was a friar who spent his life fighting the injustices he saw as incompatible with the Christian faith he so ardently preached.
